Join us at Otto Printing for Introduction to Letterpress, a 4-week exploration of letterpress printmaking. Students will learn how to design and type set their own unique notecards or journals to be printed and bound at Otto.
Otto Printing, located in Newport Kentucky, has been printing with letterpresses since 1908. They have been helping local businesses create and print everything from business forms and wedding invitations to one of a kind business cards and stationery. Otto has been a woman owned business since 2007. Working with a small team of talented, motivated individuals Otto has been able to create and accomplish some amazing tasks.

Class 1: What is Letter Press?
-tour of shop
-demonstration of letterpress
-project discussion and overview
-type case explanation and handout
– samples for pupils to view
Class 2: Project Begins
-requirements for journals
-requirements for notecards
-organizing supplies (ink, paper,type,etc)
-type setting (this is a time consuming part of the project)
Class 3: Continuation of Project
-continue working on desired project
Class 4: Finishing the Project
-finishing up the printing process
-if time allows maybe an additional project can be done
Sam, Erin and Sophia from Otto will be assisting and helping pupils throughout the classes.
